When to come
Best Time to Surf Barra de la Cruz
Jun 2026 · 5 min read

Barra works year-round, but the wave lives on south swell — so timing matters. April through October delivers the goods; June through September is the peak. The off-season is smaller and quieter, which is its own kind of good.
Peak season — June to September
South Pacific swells are at their most consistent and the point is at its best — long, fast, and frequently overhead. Crowds pick up, but it's still mellow compared with the bigger-name spots up the coast. If you want Barra at full song, come now and book early.
Shoulder season — April, May & October
Plenty of fun, well-shaped waves with fewer people in the water. May and October in particular are a sweet spot — solid swell, lighter crowds, and a more relaxed lineup that suits improving intermediates.
Off-season — November to March
Southern-hemisphere swell fades and the point goes smaller — often 1 to 3 feet. It's the quietest, most laid-back stretch of the year, and the smaller days are friendlier for less-experienced surfers. The water is still warm and the village is at its calmest.
Water & weather
Water temperature barely moves — around 27–28°C (80–82°F) all year, so no wetsuit. Air is warm to hot; the greener, more humid months fall in the summer rainy season, with most rain arriving as short afternoon storms. Mornings are typically the cleanest for surfing whatever the month.
